Web Consultant in Bangalore — Advice on the Website You Already Have
An audit that ends in a verdict, not a sales pitch: what is wrong with your website, whether it is worth fixing or worth replacing, and what each path actually costs. From someone who will tell you when the answer is to leave it alone.
The short answer
A website audit in India costs ₹25,000–₹75,000 for a small or mid-sized site and ₹40,000–₹1,50,000 for e-commerce. Below about ₹25,000 you are buying an automated tool export, not a diagnostic — the difference is that a tool lists 47 unoptimised images and an audit tells you which three matter and whether fixing them will change anything.
The verdict is the point. Fix it if the content and rankings are sound and the problem is speed or design. Rebuild if the platform is out of support, nobody can edit it without a developer, or the business it was built for has changed. An agency pitching a rebuild has one answer to that question before it looks; this ends in both paths costed, in writing, and you owe nothing after.
What I am hired for
Six engagements, all ending in a document
Every other page in this site's web section ends in a website. This one ends in a findings document — addressed to you, costed, prioritised, and executable by any developer including the one you already have.
Website audit
Performance, technical SEO, conversion, accessibility, security and content, in one document with costed fixes in priority order.
₹25,000 – ₹75,000
Rebuild or fix?
The verdict most people want and few agencies will give, because one answer is worth far more to them than the other.
Part of the audit
Platform and vendor selection
Which platform, and which of the three agencies quoting you. Written as criteria you can apply yourself, not a recommendation you have to trust.
₹25,000 – ₹1,00,000
Quote review
Somebody has quoted you ₹4 lakh for a website. One or two days to say whether that is the right price for the right thing.
₹25,000 – ₹50,000
Orphaned site takeover
Nobody knows who owns the domain, the developer is unreachable, and nothing is documented. Establishing what you have, and what you control.
₹25,000 – ₹75,000
Migration planning
Moving platform or host without losing your rankings — redirect map, content inventory, and the order the work has to happen in.
₹50,000 – ₹2,00,000
The verdict
Rebuild, or fix?
This is the decision the whole engagement exists to answer, and it is worth saying where the bias usually sits: an agency quoting a rebuild has decided before it looks, and the developer who built the thing will defend it past the point of reason. The honest answer depends on which of these is true of your site — and on more than one of them being true at once.
A rebuild throws away working search equity, so it has to earn it. Where the platform is genuinely out of support, it earns it easily — and the platform question itself is argued properly in WordPress vs Next.js, not here.
What gets checked
Eight things an audit looks at
Seven of these are what you would expect. The eighth — ownership — is the one that most often changes what the client does next, and it is the one no automated tool can tell you.
| Area | What is actually examined |
|---|---|
| Performance | Core Web Vitals on real mobile connections, not a desktop test. Image weight, render-blocking scripts, and what the third-party tags are actually costing you. |
| Technical SEO | Indexing, canonicals, redirect chains, structured data, sitemaps, and whether Search Console is reporting problems nobody has read. |
| Conversion | Whether the thing you want people to do is visible without scrolling, whether the form works on a phone, and whether enquiries are reaching a human. |
| Content and structure | Pages competing with each other for the same query, pages nobody reaches, and the questions buyers ask that the site never answers. |
| Accessibility | Contrast, keyboard navigation, labels and headings — which overlaps substantially with what makes a site legible to search engines and AI assistants. |
| Security and currency | Platform and plugin versions, admin access, SSL, backups, and whether anybody has tested a restore. |
| Ownership | Whose name the domain, hosting, DNS, analytics and repository are in. This is the finding that most often changes what the client does next. |
| Running cost | What the site costs a year and what it should cost. Plenty of sites are on hosting three tiers above what they need, and some are on one tier below. |
What it costs
Audit price by site size — and the band that is not an audit
| Engagement | Indicative range | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Website audit — small or mid site | ₹25,000 – ₹75,000 | Performance, technical SEO, conversion, accessibility, security and content, with costed fixes in priority order and a rebuild-or-fix verdict |
| Website audit — e-commerce | ₹40,000 – ₹1,50,000 | The above, plus crawl budget, filter and facet URLs, duplicate content and the checkout funnel |
| Website audit — enterprise or pre-migration | ₹2,50,000 + | Multi-market or replatform scale, where the audit is the input to a migration plan |
| Quote review | ₹25,000 – ₹50,000 | A written view on whether a quote you have received is the right price for the right scope |
| Platform and vendor selection | ₹25,000 – ₹1,00,000 | Criteria, a shortlist and the trade-offs written down — applicable without me |
| Orphaned site takeover | ₹25,000 – ₹75,000 | What exists, who owns each account, what you control, and the recovery steps for what you do not |
| Migration planning | ₹50,000 – ₹2,00,000 | Redirect map, content inventory, sequencing and a rollback plan |
| Advisory retainer | ₹25,000 – ₹60,000 / month | Named days a month: reviews, vendor management, and decisions as they come up |
Indicative Indian market ranges for 2026, not a rate card. The audit bands are researched market figures; a blended senior rate in India is around ₹2,000–₹3,500 an hour, which is a useful sanity check — divide any quote by it and ask whether the implied number of hours is plausible for the work described. Which page you want
This site has five pages about websites. Here is which one
Routing honestly, including away from this page.
Tech stack
What the audit is done with.
Search Console and GA4 for what is actually happening rather than what a crawler guesses, Semrush and Ahrefs for the competitive picture, and real mobile-network testing for performance — because a desktop score on office Wi-Fi is not the experience your customers are having. Platform-level review across WordPress, Next.js and plain PHP stacks.
FAQ
Web consulting in Bangalore — questions I get asked
What does a website audit cost in India?
₹25,000–₹75,000 for a small or mid-sized site, ₹40,000–₹1,50,000 for e-commerce, and ₹2,50,000 upwards for enterprise or pre-migration work. The number worth knowing: below about ₹25,000 you are almost always buying an automated tool export rather than a diagnostic. A tool tells you that 47 images are unoptimised; an audit tells you which three of them matter, what it costs to fix, and whether fixing it will change anything for your business.
Is a free website audit worth having?
It is worth exactly what it is: the first stage of a sales process. A free audit is generated by a tool, lists surface-level issues, and concludes that you need the service the sender sells. That is not dishonest, but it is not advice either — nobody giving one is structurally able to tell you your website is fine and you should spend the money elsewhere, which is a genuine finding and not a rare one.
Should I rebuild my website or fix it?
Fix it if the content and rankings are sound and the problem is speed, design or small functional gaps — a rebuild throws away working search equity to solve a problem a fortnight of work would solve. Rebuild if the platform is out of support, if nobody can edit it without a developer, or if the business it was built for has materially changed. The audit gives you the verdict in writing with both paths costed, which is the thing an agency pitching a rebuild will not give you.
How is this different from hiring a web developer?
A developer builds or changes the site; a consultant tells you what should change and whether it is worth it. If you already know what you want built, skip this page and go to freelance web developer in Bangalore — paying consulting rates to have a known outcome described again is waste. Come here when you have a website and a problem, and the people offering to solve it all sell the same solution.
Can you review a quote I have received for a website?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people get in touch. ₹25,000–₹50,000 for one or two days, against a quote that is often ₹4–₹15 lakh. The usual findings: the scope is vaguer than the price implies, a third of it is content work the client will end up doing anyway, and hosting, third-party licences and post-launch support are either missing or on somebody else's account. What a checkable quote looks like is set out in how to hire a freelance developer.
Will you tell me my website is fine?
If it is, yes, and it happens. Plenty of small-business websites are adequate for what the business needs and the money would do more good on Google Ads, on content, or on nothing at all. That outcome is a legitimate result of an audit. It is also the outcome no agency's free audit will ever reach, which is the entire argument for paying for one.
Nobody knows who owns our domain. Can you help?
That is the orphaned-site takeover engagement, and it is more common than you would think. The work is establishing what exists and what you actually control — domain registrant, DNS, hosting, the repository, analytics, the mail provider — then recovering what is in somebody else's name through the registrar's or platform's own process. Those run to their timelines, not ours, so starting early matters. The accounts that should have been in your name from day one are listed in red flags when hiring a developer.
Do you do the fixes as well, or just the report?
Either, and there is no obligation. The findings document is written so any developer or agency could execute it — priorities, costs and acceptance criteria, not "call me". Plenty of clients take it to the developer they already have, which is the point of paying for advice rather than a pitch. If you do want the work done, that is website development and it is quoted separately.
How long does an audit take?
Three to five working days for a small or mid-sized site, from the point I have read access. E-commerce takes longer because crawling, filter URLs and the checkout funnel are genuinely more work. You get the document first and a walkthrough afterwards, because nobody acts on a report they have only been emailed.
What access do you need?
Read access to analytics and Search Console, and ideally read access to the CMS and hosting. If you do not have those, establishing why not is already the first finding. I do not need the ability to change anything in order to audit it, and I would rather not have it.
Will an audit help with AI search and assistants?
It is part of what gets checked, and it overlaps more with ordinary good practice than the current noise suggests: clean structure, answerable questions, real structured data, and content that states facts plainly rather than implying them. There is a page on this specifically — getting recommended by ChatGPT and Gemini — and the audit flags where your site fails the basics it describes.
Are you in Bangalore, and does it matter?
I am based in Bengaluru, and for this work it barely matters — a website audit is delivered remotely and most of mine are for clients elsewhere. It matters only if you would rather sit together for the walkthrough, which some people would, and which is genuinely more useful than a call when there are decisions to make in the room.
