How many cameras do you actually need?
This is the most-asked question and the one most often answered wrongly, because the honest answer comes from a survey rather than a phone call. What matters is which specific events you need to be able to prove afterwards — not a camera count that sounds reassuring.

Storage and retention — the part that ruins most installations
The single most common complaint I am called about is footage that has already been overwritten by the time anyone goes looking. Retention is arithmetic, not optimism: camera count × resolution × frame rate × compression × hours per day decides how many days you keep.
So the question is answered backwards. How many days must you be able to go back — 15, 30, 90? That, plus compliance requirements in your sector, determines the recorder and disk capacity. Buying a recorder first and discovering the retention afterwards is how you end up with seven days when you needed sixty.

Biometric access control and attendance
Access control and attendance are usually bought together and should be designed together. The device is the cheap part; the design decisions that matter are what happens when it fails, who can override it, and where the data goes.
Fire safety comes first: doors need fail-safe or fail-secure behaviour chosen deliberately per door, with a manual release. A door that cannot open in a power cut is a legal problem, not a security feature.

Grey-market cameras are common, cheaper by a few hundred rupees per unit, and carry no warranty support when they fail in month fourteen. STQC-certified units typically cost ₹300–₹800 more per camera — worth it on any installation you intend to keep.

How many CCTV cameras do I need?

Which CCTV brand is best — Hikvision, CP Plus or Dahua?
All three are credible. CP Plus is usually the value option, Hikvision has the strongest software and ecosystem, Dahua sits between them, and Axis is the premium choice for demanding sites. I recommend on warranty, spares availability and your budget — never on which brand pays the best margin.
How many days of footage will I have?

What happens to the doors during a power cut?
That is a design decision made per door — fail-safe doors unlock, fail-secure doors stay locked — with manual release and fire-alarm integration. Any access control installation that has not answered this question explicitly is unsafe.
Can I view the cameras on my phone?
Yes, with remote viewing configured and hardened: changed default credentials, strong passwords, current firmware, and no recorder exposed directly to the internet on a default port. A large share of camera systems worldwide are accessible to strangers for exactly those reasons.
