--- title: Managed IT Support Services for Business | India description: Outsourced IT support for Indian businesses: helpdesk, monitoring, patching, backup and security, priced per user per month. No in-house IT team required. source: https://samuelmarndi.com/services/managed-it-support/ site: https://samuelmarndi.com author: Samuel Marndi contact: +91 82803 20550 · samuelmarandi6@gmail.com updated: 2026-08-22 --- # Managed IT support for businesses — a helpdesk, monitoring and someone accountable The IT department a 15-to-100-person business needs but cannot justify hiring: a helpdesk your staff can actually reach, monitoring that catches problems before they land, and one accountable person who knows your setup. ## Short answer **Managed IT support in India typically costs ₹2,000–₹5,000 per user per month** for a service covering helpdesk, monitoring, patching, backup management and endpoint security — roughly a quarter to a half of comparable Western rates. For a 25-person office that is usually ₹50,000–₹1,25,000 a month, against ₹6–₹12 lakh a year for one in-house IT hire who also takes leave. **The difference from an AMC is proactive versus reactive.** Managed support is priced per user rather than per device and includes monitoring, patching and a helpdesk, so a large share of the problems are handled before anyone notices them. An [AMC](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/it-amc/) is priced per device and is mostly about repairing hardware when it fails. ## Key facts | Item | Detail | | --- | --- | | Typical cost | ₹2,000–₹5,000 per user / month depending on scope | | Best fit | 15–100 staff, no in-house IT team or one overloaded person | | Included | Helpdesk, monitoring, patching, backup checks, endpoint security, vendor liaison | | Support hours | Business hours as standard; extended and on-call available | | Onboarding | Two-to-four week audit, documentation and baseline-fix period | | Delivery | Remote-first, with on-site visits in Bengaluru and scheduled visits elsewhere | | Exit | Documentation and credentials handed over — no lock-in by obscurity | ## What is delivered - A helpdesk your staff can reach by email, phone or WhatsApp, with tickets tracked - Monitoring on servers, network and endpoints with alerts that reach a human - Patching and update management on a schedule, reported rather than assumed - Backup configured, monitored and periodically test-restored - Endpoint protection deployed and its status verified on every device - Joiner, mover and leaver process so access is granted and revoked properly - Vendor liaison — ISP, hardware, software — so you stop being the middleman - Documentation of the whole environment, kept current and owned by you ## What this costs against hiring someone The honest comparison for most businesses this size is not managed support versus nothing — it is managed support versus one IT hire. Below roughly 60 staff the maths usually favours the service, and above it the answer often becomes an in-house person plus specialist support behind them. The figures below are indicative for 2026 and deliberately include the costs people leave out of the hiring side. | | One in-house IT hire | Managed IT support | | --- | --- | --- | | Annual cost | ₹6,00,000 – ₹12,00,000 plus overheads | ₹2,000 – ₹5,000 per user / month | | Coverage during leave | Nobody | Continuous | | Breadth of skills | One person's knowledge | Network, servers, cloud, security, procurement | | Tools and monitoring | Bought separately | Included in the fee | | Scales down | No — salary is fixed | Yes — per-user billing follows headcount | | Best above | ~60 staff, or where IT is the product | ~15–60 staff with normal business IT | ## What is actually included "Managed IT" means very different things from different providers, so here is the specific scope rather than the category name. Anything not on this list is quoted separately and told to you in advance — projects, hardware supply and major migrations are not smuggled into a monthly fee. | Area | What is covered | How it is measured | | --- | --- | --- | | Helpdesk | Staff issues by email, phone or WhatsApp | Tickets logged, response time against SLA | | Monitoring | Servers, switches, firewall, internet links, disk health | Alerts raised and cleared | | Patching | OS and key application updates on a schedule | Patch compliance percentage per month | | Backup | Configuration, daily verification, periodic test restore | Last successful backup and last test restore | | Security | Endpoint protection, admin rights, MFA, access reviews | Devices protected, accounts with MFA | | Accounts | Joiners, movers, leavers across email and systems | Requests completed within SLA | | Vendors | ISP, hardware and software escalation on your behalf | Cases opened and chased | | Reporting | A monthly summary a non-technical director can read | Delivered monthly | ## The security floor, and why it is not optional Most Indian SMB security incidents are not sophisticated. They are a shared admin password, an ex-employee whose email was never disabled, a backup that had silently stopped, or a firewall left on defaults. None of that requires an expensive product to fix — it requires someone whose job it is to check. Every managed support engagement includes a baseline that is brought up to standard in the first month, whether or not you asked for security. It is included because supporting an environment that fails these is unsupportable. - Multi-factor authentication on email and any internet-facing system - No shared logins — every person has their own account, so leavers can be removed cleanly - Local administrator rights removed from day-to-day accounts - Backups following a 3-2-1 pattern, with at least one copy the ransomware cannot reach - Firewall firmware current, default credentials changed, remote access controlled - A documented leaver checklist, run the same way every time - Recorded restore tests — because [redundancy is not a backup](https://samuelmarndi.com/blog/raid-is-not-a-backup/) ## How onboarding works — the first month Taking over an environment nobody documented is the normal case, not the exception. The first month is therefore mostly discovery and correction, and it is worth knowing that in advance because it is when the awkward findings surface: the backup that has not run since March, the server still on an unsupported OS, the four ex-employees with active accounts. Those findings come to you as a written list with a priority and a cost, not as a series of surprises. Some of them I fix inside the fee. Some are projects. You decide which, and the ones you defer stay on the register so nobody can later claim they were not raised. ## Is managed support or an AMC the right purchase? Buying the wrong one of these is common. Managed support is per user and proactive — its value is that fewer things break and staff are not blocked. An [IT AMC](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/it-amc/) is per device and reactive — its value is that when hardware fails, someone comes and fixes it for a price fixed a year ago. If your pain is "our computers keep breaking and repairs are unpredictable", you want an AMC. If your pain is "nobody owns our IT and we only find out about problems when work stops", you want managed support. If both sentences describe you, run an AMC on the hardware and managed support on the people — that combination is common and priced together rather than twice. ## Pricing Indicative Indian market ranges for 2026. The per-user figure depends on how much is in scope and how much of your environment is already in a supportable state — which the audit establishes before any number is committed. | Tier | Indicative range | What it covers | | --- | --- | --- | | Essential | ₹2,000 – ₹2,800 per user / month | Helpdesk, patching, endpoint protection, backup monitoring | | Standard | ₹2,800 – ₹4,000 per user / month | Adds infrastructure monitoring, account lifecycle, vendor liaison, monthly reporting | | Complete | ₹4,000 – ₹5,000 per user / month | Adds security reviews, extended hours, on-site visit schedule, budget planning | | Server add-on | from ₹2,500 per server / month | Monitoring, patching and backup for physical or virtual servers | | Onboarding audit | One-off, credited against the first quarter | Asset register, documentation and a prioritised remediation list | | Projects | Quoted separately | Migrations, new office setup, cabling, hardware supply — never hidden in the monthly fee | *Indian managed-services rates sit at roughly a quarter to a half of US and UK equivalents, which commonly run $100–$300 per user per month. Anyone quoting you Western pricing for Indian delivery should be asked what the difference buys.* ## How the work runs 1. **Audit and baseline** — Document what exists, find what is already broken, and issue a prioritised list with costs before anything is promised. 2. **Stabilise** — Fix the security floor and the recurring faults, so the service is not spent firefighting the same issue every week. 3. **Run** — Helpdesk, monitoring, patching and backup verification, with tickets and SLA performance visible to you. 4. **Review and plan** — A periodic review of what broke, what it cost and what should be replaced or invested in next — in plain language. ## Frequently asked questions ### How much do managed IT services cost in India? Typically ₹2,000–₹5,000 per user per month for a scope covering helpdesk, monitoring, patching, backup management and endpoint security. Global rates for the same service commonly run $100–$300 per user per month, and Indian delivery sits at roughly a quarter to a half of that. Scope and the starting condition of your environment drive where in the band you land. ### Is managed IT support cheaper than hiring someone? For most businesses between roughly 15 and 60 staff, yes. One in-house IT hire costs ₹6–₹12 lakh a year plus overheads, covers one person's skill set and is unavailable on leave. Above about 60 staff, or where IT is central to the product, an in-house person with specialist support behind them usually wins. I will say which applies to you rather than sell you the service either way. ### What is included in managed IT support? Helpdesk access for staff, monitoring of servers, network and endpoints, patch management, backup configuration and test restores, endpoint security, joiner/mover/leaver account handling, vendor escalation and a monthly report. Projects, hardware supply and major migrations are quoted separately and never folded silently into the monthly fee. ### What is the difference between managed IT services and an AMC? Managed support is priced per user and is proactive: monitoring, patching and a helpdesk mean fewer problems reach your staff. An AMC is priced per device and is reactive: when hardware fails, it gets repaired under a contract priced in advance. Many businesses run both — an AMC on hardware and managed support on users. ### Do you need to be on site? Most work is remote, which is why it is affordable. On-site visits are same-week in Bengaluru and on a scheduled basis elsewhere in India. Physical work — cabling, hardware swaps, new installations — is always on site, and the visit schedule is agreed in the contract rather than promised vaguely. ### What are your support hours? Business hours as standard, with extended and on-call cover available where downtime outside hours genuinely costs money. I will not sell 24/7 cover to a business that closes at seven — it is a real cost for a benefit you would never use. ### Can you work alongside our existing IT person? Yes, and it is a common arrangement. Your person handles day-to-day requests and knows the business; I cover the specialist areas — network, servers, cloud, security — and the gap when they are on leave. It usually costs less than a second hire and works better than escalating to a call centre. ### How do you handle staff who leave? With a documented leaver checklist run identically every time: email and cloud accounts disabled, mailbox delegated or archived, devices retrieved and wiped, shared credentials rotated, VPN and building access revoked. Departed employees keeping active access is one of the most common findings during onboarding audits, and it is entirely preventable. ### What happens in the first month? An audit of the environment, documentation of what exists, and a written list of what is already broken with priorities and costs. Expect uncomfortable findings — a stalled backup, an unsupported operating system, dormant accounts. They come as a list you decide on, not as invoices you did not expect. ### Are we locked in? No. The contract has a notice period, and at exit you receive the documentation, the asset register and every credential in your own name. Lock-in by undocumented environment is the industry's oldest trick and I would rather keep clients because leaving is easy than because it is hard. ### Do you support Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace? Yes — licensing, mailbox and account administration, security settings including MFA and conditional access, shared drive structure, and the migration between them if that is what you need. These are where most SMB support requests actually land. ### Which cities do you cover? Remote support covers anywhere in India. On-site visits run from Bengaluru with same-week response, and on a scheduled basis across Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Bhawanipatna and the major metros. For sites far from a base, the honest structure is remote-first with a defined visit schedule rather than a same-day promise that cannot be kept. ## Related services - [IT AMC (annual maintenance contract)](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/it-amc/) — Per-device annual cover for computers, servers and network - [IT consulting & support](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/it-consulting/) — Retainer support, procurement, IT roadmap - [Networking & cabling](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/networking/) — Cat6/fibre, switches, VLANs, Wi-Fi, firewalls - [Cloud consulting](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/cloud-consulting/) — AWS & Azure architecture, migration, cost cuts --- *Published by [Samuel Marndi](https://samuelmarndi.com), independent IT consultant, Bengaluru, India.
