--- title: IT AMC Services India | Annual Maintenance Contract Cost description: IT AMC from ₹250 per desktop per month, servers from ₹2,500 and network from ₹5,000. Comprehensive or labour-only, with the SLA and exclusions written down. source: https://samuelmarndi.com/services/it-amc/ site: https://samuelmarndi.com author: Samuel Marndi contact: +91 82803 20550 · samuelmarandi6@gmail.com updated: 2026-08-22 --- # IT AMC — annual maintenance contracts priced per device, scoped in writing An annual contract that keeps your existing computers, servers, printers and network working — with the response times, the parts position and the exclusions written into the contract instead of discovered during a breakdown. ## Short answer **IT AMC in India typically costs ₹250–₹800 per desktop per month for labour-only cover and ₹800–₹2,000 per device per month for comprehensive cover including spare parts.** Servers usually start around ₹2,500 per month each and network equipment around ₹5,000 per month for the estate, with the exact figure driven by device count, device age and the response time you need. **The single decision that changes the price most is comprehensive versus non-comprehensive.** A comprehensive AMC includes spare parts; a non-comprehensive one covers labour and visits but bills parts separately. A quote that is unusually cheap is almost always the second kind, which is fine — as long as you know that before the motherboard fails, not after. ## Key facts | Item | Detail | | --- | --- | | Desktop / laptop AMC | ₹250–₹800 per device / month labour-only · ₹800–₹2,000 comprehensive | | Server AMC | from ₹2,500 per server / month | | Network AMC | from ₹5,000 / month for switches, firewall and access points | | Contract types | Comprehensive (parts included) or non-comprehensive (labour and visits only) | | Response times | Typically 30 minutes to 4 hours by severity, agreed per contract | | Minimum term | Annual, with a written scope, exclusions and exit clause | | Coverage | On-site in Bengaluru and across India; remote support anywhere | ## What is delivered - Asset audit — every device listed with make, model, serial, age and warranty status - A written scope stating what is covered, what is excluded and what is chargeable - Response and resolution targets by severity, agreed before signature - Preventive visits on a schedule, not only reactive call-outs - Patching, antivirus status and backup verification checked and reported - A monthly or quarterly report of calls logged, time taken and recurring faults - All admin credentials held in your name, documented and handed over ## Comprehensive or non-comprehensive — read this before you compare quotes Almost every confusing AMC comparison comes down to this one distinction, and the cheaper quote is nearly always the narrower one. Comparing a comprehensive quote against a non-comprehensive one on price alone is the most expensive mistake in this category. Neither type is wrong. Older hardware near end of life is often better on labour-only cover with parts replaced as a capital decision; a fleet of critical machines is usually better comprehensive. What matters is that you know which one you are signing. | | Non-comprehensive | Comprehensive | | --- | --- | --- | | Labour and visits | Included | Included | | Spare parts | Billed separately at cost | Included up to the agreed scope | | Typical monthly cost per desktop | ₹250 – ₹800 | ₹800 – ₹2,000 | | Budget predictability | Low — a bad year costs more | High — one annual figure | | Best for | Newer hardware still under warranty, or old kit due for replacement | Business-critical machines and ageing fleets | | Common trap | Assuming parts were included | Not reading which parts are excluded | ## What an SLA should actually say "Same-day support" is not an SLA. An SLA names a severity, a response time, a resolution target and what happens when the target is missed. Without those four things there is nothing to enforce and nothing to review at renewal. These are the severity bands I work to. They are written into the contract, and the monthly report shows performance against them, including the months where I miss. | Severity | Example | Response target | Approach | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | P1 — business stopped | Server down, internet down, no one can work | 30 minutes | Immediate remote, on-site same day | | P2 — department blocked | Shared printer dead, one team offline, NAS unreachable | 2 hours | Remote first, on-site next visit or sooner | | P3 — single user | One laptop slow, mail client broken, password reset | 4 working hours | Remote resolution in most cases | | P4 — request | New joiner setup, software install, moves and changes | Next scheduled visit | Batched into preventive visits | ## What preventive maintenance actually involves Reactive-only AMCs are cheap because they do nothing until something breaks. The visits below are what stop the majority of the calls happening in the first place, and they are the difference between a contract that costs you money and one that saves it. - Physical cleaning of machines, fans and server-room intakes — heat kills more hardware in Indian offices than anything else - Operating-system and firmware patching, with a record of what was applied and when - Antivirus and endpoint protection status confirmed on every device, not assumed - Backups tested by restoring a file, because an untested backup is a hope, not a backup - Disk health and SMART warnings checked before a drive fails rather than after - UPS batteries load-tested — they degrade silently and fail exactly when needed - Switch, firewall and access-point firmware reviewed for known vulnerabilities - Asset register updated with what was added, retired or moved ## The asset register, and why it belongs to you Every AMC here starts with an audit that produces a register: every device with make, model, serial number, purchase date, warranty expiry, assigned user and location. It sounds administrative. It is the single most useful document your business will get out of the contract. It tells you what to budget for replacement next year, proves what you own for audit and insurance, and means the next provider — me or anyone else — can take over in a day rather than a month. It is issued to you as a file you keep. A vendor who will not give you an asset register is protecting their position, not your equipment. The same principle applies to credentials. Domain admin, firewall, NAS, Microsoft 365 and recorder logins are created in your business's name with you holding the master. I get accounts that you can revoke. ## Do you actually need an AMC, or managed support? These get confused constantly, and buying the wrong one wastes money in both directions. An AMC is fundamentally about keeping hardware alive: it is priced per device, bought annually, and its natural buyer is whoever owns the fixed-asset budget. Managed IT support is about keeping people working: it is priced per user, includes monitoring and a helpdesk, and its natural buyer is whoever hears the complaints. A 20-person office with ageing desktops and no server usually wants an AMC. A 40-person office running Microsoft 365, a firewall and remote workers usually wants [managed IT support](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/managed-it-support/). Plenty of businesses end up with both — an AMC on the hardware and managed support on the users — and that is a perfectly sensible answer as long as it was chosen rather than accumulated. ## Pricing Indicative Indian market ranges for 2026, published so you can sanity-check any AMC quote — including mine. Your figure follows the asset audit, because pricing an AMC without counting the devices is guesswork. | Item | Indicative range | Notes | | --- | --- | --- | | Desktop / laptop — labour only | ₹250 – ₹800 per device / month | Visits and labour included, parts billed separately | | Desktop / laptop — comprehensive | ₹800 – ₹2,000 per device / month | Parts included within the agreed scope | | Server | from ₹2,500 per server / month | Depends on criticality, age and response target | | Network estate | from ₹5,000 / month | Switches, firewall, access points and cabling faults | | Printers and peripherals | ₹150 – ₹500 per device / month | Consumables normally excluded | | CCTV and access control AMC | ₹1,500 – ₹10,000 per device / year | Quarterly health checks and retention verification | | One-off asset audit | Credited against the contract | Register is yours whether or not you sign | *Older devices cost more to cover, not less — a five-year-old fleet carries more failures than a two-year-old one, and any provider quoting a flat rate regardless of age is either averaging it back somewhere or planning to argue at claim time.* ## How the work runs 1. **Asset audit** — Walk the site, list every device with serial, age and warranty status, and note what is already failing. 2. **Scope and SLA agreed** — Coverage, exclusions, severity bands and response targets written down and signed — before any money changes hands. 3. **Baseline fixes** — Patching, backup verification, antivirus and the obvious faults cleared so the contract starts from a known state. 4. **Run and report** — Scheduled preventive visits plus reactive support, with a periodic report of calls, time taken and recurring faults. ## Frequently asked questions ### How much does an IT AMC cost per computer in India? Roughly ₹250–₹800 per desktop per month for labour-only cover, and ₹800–₹2,000 per device per month for comprehensive cover that includes spare parts. Servers usually start around ₹2,500 per month each and network equipment around ₹5,000 per month for the estate. Device count, device age and your required response time move the figure more than anything else. ### What is the difference between comprehensive and non-comprehensive AMC? A comprehensive AMC includes spare parts within the agreed scope; a non-comprehensive AMC covers labour, visits and diagnostics but bills parts separately. This is the main reason two AMC quotes can differ by three times, so check which one you are comparing before you compare price. ### What should an IT AMC contract include? A device-level scope, a written exclusions list, severity bands with response and resolution targets, the parts position, the preventive visit schedule, reporting frequency, the escalation path, and an exit clause covering handover of credentials and documentation. If any of those are missing, they will be decided in your vendor's favour during an outage. ### What is a reasonable response time for IT support? Industry practice is 15–30 minutes for critical, business-stopping issues and 1–4 hours for non-critical ones. What matters more than the number is that severity is defined, so that "critical" means something specific rather than whatever the vendor decides on the day. ### Is an AMC worth it for a small office? Below about ten machines, often not — pay-as-you-go plus a good backup usually costs less. It becomes worth it when downtime has a real cost, when you have a server or a firewall that nobody in-house understands, or when you need a predictable annual figure for budgeting. I will tell you honestly which side of that line you are on. ### Does the AMC cover parts, batteries and consumables? Parts are covered under a comprehensive contract within the agreed scope. Consumables — toner, ink, paper — and physical damage, theft, fire and power-surge damage are normally excluded everywhere in the industry. UPS batteries are usually a named exception because they are wear items; whichever way it goes, it will be written down. ### Can you take over an AMC from our existing vendor? Yes. The changeover starts with an audit of what is actually in the building, a credential handover checklist and a list of anything already broken so it does not become a dispute later. Expect two to four weeks of overlap on a mid-sized estate. ### Do you cover old, out-of-warranty hardware? Yes, with the age reflected in the price and an honest note about which machines are worth covering at all. Sometimes the right advice is to replace three desktops rather than insure them for another year, and I would rather say that at quoting time than bill you for repeated failures. ### Will we get admin passwords and documentation? Yes, always. Domain, firewall, NAS, Microsoft 365 and recorder credentials are created in your business's name with you holding the master account, and the asset register plus network documentation is issued to you as a file you keep. It stays yours if you move to another provider. ### Do you offer AMC outside Bengaluru? Yes. On-site AMC runs from Bengaluru with scheduled visits, and across India including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Bhawanipatna. Remote support covers anywhere; for sites far from a base, the honest structure is usually remote-first cover with a defined on-site visit schedule rather than a same-day promise nobody can keep. ### Should we buy an AMC or managed IT services? An AMC is per-device and keeps hardware alive; managed support is per-user and keeps people working, with monitoring and a helpdesk included. Ageing hardware and a small team point to an AMC; Microsoft 365, remote workers and a firewall point to managed support. Many businesses sensibly run both. ### What happens if you miss the SLA? It appears in the report rather than quietly not appearing. The contract states the remedy — normally a credit against the following period — and repeated misses are grounds for you to exit without penalty. An SLA with no consequence attached is marketing copy. ## Related services - [Managed IT support](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/managed-it-support/) — Per-user helpdesk, monitoring, patching and backup - [Networking & cabling](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/networking/) — Cat6/fibre, switches, VLANs, Wi-Fi, firewalls - [Servers & storage](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/servers-storage/) — Server specs, NAS, RAID, virtualisation, backups - [IT consulting & support](https://samuelmarndi.com/services/it-consulting/) — Retainer support, procurement, IT roadmap --- *Published by [Samuel Marndi](https://samuelmarndi.com), independent IT consultant, Bengaluru, India.
