The rest — non-production running 24×7, orphaned disks and snapshots, unnecessary cross-region transfer — depends entirely on what is in your account, which is why the audit is a written finding rather than a promise. No, and it is labelled as a model everywhere it appears. Your accounts are in your name and billed to you directly at whatever the provider charges. The practical consequence is that I can tell you to leave a hyperscaler for DigitalOcean, or to stay on the server you already own — and sometimes that is the right answer. ### Should we move to the cloud at all? Not always. A steady 24×7 workload on hardware you already own is frequently cheaper where it sits, and moving it produces a monthly bill forever in exchange for a capital cost you have already paid. Cloud wins on spiky or seasonal load, on multi-site and remote working, on scaling down, and on not stocking spare hardware. A website and database is often a weekend. A handful of applications runs four to twelve weeks, and a mid-size estate three to nine months in waves. The assessment is what makes those numbers meaningful — the thing that consistently causes overruns is dependencies nobody documented, which is exactly what an assessment is for. ### Can you just review what we already have? Yes, and it is the most common first engagement. A cost audit or an architecture review is a standalone deliverable with a written report — you are free to hand it to your own team or another contractor to implement. There is no obligation to have me do the work, and a review that only makes sense if I execute it is not a review. ### What about security and compliance? Identity and least privilege, network segmentation, secrets out of source control, encryption at rest and in transit, and audit logging are part of any architecture work rather than an upsell. On data residency: Indian regions exist on all three providers and the decision is usually contractual rather than technical. What I will not do is sign off on a compliance claim I am not qualified to certify — that needs an auditor, and I will say so. ### Who owns the accounts and the infrastructure code? You do. Provider accounts are registered in your name and billed to you directly, and the infrastructure code lives in your repository from the first commit. If you move to another consultant, the estate goes with you and can be rebuilt from that repository — which is the actual test of whether infrastructure as code was done properly. ### Do you work with our existing IT team or provider? Yes, and that is often the best arrangement — I do the design and the migration, your team runs it afterwards, with the handover documented rather than verbal.
